With just three years experience in racing, Meyrick makes the jump to the prestigious British F3 Series in 2008. The proving ground for F1 legends Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ayrton Senna and Mika Hakkinen and modern day F1 racers David Coulthard, Rubens Barrichello, Takuma Sato, Mark Webber and Jenson Button, British F3 is the series to watch for tomorrow’s racing stars.
Having missed out on a full season of racing, Meyrick competed in the incredibly competitive Formula Renault Winter Cup in 2007. Racing against more experienced drivers and in a field of 32 cars, Meyrick brought his independently run car home in the top 10 in three of the fours races, to finish ninth in the overall standings.
Meyrick became the youngest person to compete in the Thoroughbred Grand Prix when he took his place behind the wheel of at 1976 March F1 car in 2007. Racing at the infamous Nürburgring, Meyrick was leading with four laps to go, when he suffered a race-ending mechanical failure.
Great pace and progress throughout pre-season testing suggested a strong season lay ahead, but a series of first lap collisions – in which Meyrick was largely an innocent victim – brought title hopes to an early conclusion.
While most aspiring racing drivers spend their teenage years pounding round karting tracks and gaining race experience, Meyrick was an absolute motorsport novice when he entered his first Formula Ford race in 2005. The Chester based rookie went on to win 10 races that season, the first indication of Meyrick’s true speed and racing ability.
