Meyrick looking for better times in Spa - 2009-05-06

Le Mans Series rookie Andy Meyrick is looking for a better outing in his Audi R10 TDi this weekend, as he takes part in the second round of the 2009 Le Man Series championship at Spa-Francorchamps.  The 23 year-old racer completed more of a test than a race last time out at Barcelona after the number 14 car was involved in an accident early on in the first race of the season.  Now looking to get a good result for the Kolles LMP team in Belgium, Meyrick is eager to get behind the wheel again.

Teamed with Michael Krumm and Charles Zwolsman at the last event, Meyrick was soon introduced to the pit falls of LMS racing, as his team mate was hit in the number 14 car in the very early stages of the race.  With any chance of a good result wasted, Meyrick took the opportunity to get more experience in the Audi R10 and in the LMS series.  With only five events in the series\' calendar, Meyrick is now anxious to get his season underway with a good result at Spa.

\"I\'m really looking forward to this weekend at Spa\", said Meyrick.  The last race in Barcelona was a real disappointment after our promising pace in testing and I know that we should be finishing much higher up.  It was really bad luck to be involved in an accident so early on in the race last time so as well as getting a good set-up, we need some luck on our side in Spa as well.\"

Meyrick will be racing with the BRDC Superstar sticker on his helmet this weekend in Belgium, having been selected as one of just 13 young drivers welcomed onto the BRDC scheme for the 2009 season.  The initiative was launched in 2008 to support and further the careers of young British racing drivers.  Having been selected as a BRDC Rising Star last year, Meyrick makes the step up to Superstar status in 2009.

BRDC Superstars Director Tim Harvey said, \"Andy really deserves his place on the 2009 scheme.  He has fought back from illness to grab a great race seat for this season and his determination and drive to succeed in the sport should be admired.  We wish him the best of luck in LMS this year.\"

Speaking about the BRDC programme, Meyrick said, \"I\'m delighted to be chosen to be on the BRDC Superstar scheme this year.  As a British racing driver the BRDC is hugely respected and it\'s a real honour to be included again on the scheme this year.\"
