It has been a long time since I wrote my last blog and it has been a really busy time for me and I cant believe how much has happened.
Obviously the biggest news for me is the change from single seaters to sportscars. Originally the plan was to continue in British F3 this season and we were very close to agreeing a deal to race with the championship winning team Hi Tech. However, I received a phone call from Dr Kolles who\'s team has successfully ran DTM Audis in recent years, regarding the sportscar programme that Audi and his team were putting together. Dr Kolles has strong connections with my old team boss Trevor Carlin from their time together at Jordan Grand Prix and they had had a conversation regarding young drivers with F3 experience who\'s plans were unconfirmed for the season. From there on everything went very quickly, and before I knew it I was in Germany testing the illustrious Audi R10 tdi!!!
The chance to race in the Le Man Series with a manufacturer such as Audi is an incredible opportunity and one that I have grasped with both hands.
The other piece of good news that I received was that I would be staying on the MSA Race Elite scheme for another year. I was one of only two drivers who were kept on for a second year of training and mentoring from the MSA scheme lead by David Brabham. I was absolutely delighted when I heard the news and I hope to repay the confidence and faith that the MSA have in me.
Despite the preparation, the race at Barcelona last weekend was a real disappointment for everybody at Kolles and Audi. As a team we worked very hard to prepare the new aero package, however the limited testing mileage and new restrictions imposed on the diesel cars really constrained our result.
We were running 6th early in the race when my team mate Michael Krumm got tapped from behind and the left rear suspension was broken. This lost us 30 laps in the pits with repairs and from there on we spent the reaming part of the race testing new settings on the car for Spa. However I was able to gain some valuable mileage in the R10 around Barcelona, which was a new circuit to me, and the settings and data we collected will really help us in the coming races.
Everybody at the Kolles team is working really hard to build of what we have all leart at Barcelona and I firmly believe that with the proficient approach that the team has we can be right up there at the next race at Spa.
I have a busy schedule before the next race with some testing planned and some dedicated fitness camps so that I\'m best prepared for the legendary Belgian circuit.
